In the name of the perfume Flowerbomb from designers
Viktor & Rolf,
Fiorenza Bassetti finds her own initials as well as that
combination of opposing forces that enlivens all of her
still lifes. In these works now on display for the first
time at Galleria Balmelli, themes of flowers and bombs
are mixed with hot chocolate and relished with whipped
cream on coffee tables best known from moments of delectable
- and expensive - worldliness. Liquid chocolate - which
also serves as a remembrance of the stoves familiar from
a woman's everyday domestic life - "sweetly" outlines
the silhouettes of the missiles, as if rousing them and
inviting them to snuggle up close for protection. Even
the linguistic choice of formal and material symbiosis – an
earnestly serious play on mental associations, diversions
and cross references – leads Fiorenza Bassetti to
reinterpret the "Toblerone Trail" (the armored
line of fortification built during the mobilization of
1939-45 between the Pied du Jura and Lake Geneva), where
a crown of "teeth" made of renowned Swiss chocolate
is put in place in defense of the symbol of peace. Explosion
of the bombs produces more and more impalpable results
in which the dove, symbol of purity, reappears, luminous
and glowing, rooted in the origins of the name Fiorenza
- and made by her in the 80s and 90s - to begin a
series of variations on the theme of the Annunciation coinciding
with the moment of tentative conclusion. |

Nel nome del prodotto di Viktor & Rolf (l'eau
de parfum Flowerbomb) Fiorenza Bassetti riconosce
non solo le proprie iniziali ma anche la combinazione di
forze opposte
che anima da sempre le sue nature morte (still life, come
preferisce chiamarle l'artista). Nell'inedito
percorso che ci presenta alla Galleria Balmelli, i motivi
a lei cari del fiore e delle granate si combinano con la
cioccolata calda, assaporata con la panna sui tavolini
di caffè rinomati in momenti di deliziosa - e salata
- mondanità. La cioccolata liquida - che è anche
memoria dei fornelli di domestica quotidianità femminile
- disegna "dolcemente" le sagome dei proiettili,
quasi svegliandoli e invitandoli a stringersi fra loro
per proteggersi. La scelta anche linguistica di simbiosi
formali e materiche, gioco - in realtà serissimo
- di associazioni mentali, di sviamenti e rimandi, porta
inoltre Fiorenza Bassetti a reinterpretare il "Sentiero
dei Tobleroni" (la linea di fortificazioni anti carri
armati costruita durante la mobilitazione del 1939-45 tra
il Giura e il Lemano), dove una corona di "denti" del
rinomato cioccolato svizzero è posta a difesa del
simbolo della pace. L'esplosione delle granate porta
a risultati sempre più impalpabili, luminosi e luminescenti,
in cui riappare dalle origini del nome Fiorenza - e dalla
sua produzione degli anni '80-90 - il giglio, simbolo
di purezza, ad avviare a mo' di provvisoria conclusione
una serie di varianti sul tema dell'Annunciazione. |
