Luca Mengoni
annuvolamenti
Galleria Balmelli is devoting its latest exhibition to the work of Luca Mengoni. The title of the exposition is "obscurities", evoking two verses from Andrea Zanzotto: [...] crashing from lofty visions / into twisted obscurities [...]. The subject is flight, with all of its symbolic associations along with its opposites: crashing and falling. Mengoni introduces these themes to visitors with the large sculpture in birch wood that opens the exhibition.
Perhaps, however, the true theme of the exhibition is wind. The windflower (anemone) is a recurring presence in the works presented in the exhibition, along with clouds - the obscurities - stirred by the wind and butterfly wings sustained by the wind.
Using the artist's customary approach, images are presented individually, or more commonly, associated in groups of two or three. All of the works are on paper with a wide range of sizes represented, from small ink works on tissue paper to the large two-panel work that fills almost one whole wall of the first room. The exhibition gives visitors a snapshot of Luca Mengoni's recent work.
